Abstract:
At present, the dominant medium used in tobacco floating system is nonrenewable peat which has little reserves naturally and is of great significance in maintaining eco-system balance. But excessive exploitation makes it deplete gradually. In order to maintain sustainable development of tobacco production, the potential on vermicompost medium as a new substitute for peat was investigated in this study. The results showed that bulk density of vermicompost medium was higher than those of peat. Fresh weight, stem height and stem girth of seedlings were 0.4 g, 2.2 mm, 1 mm more than those peat, respectively. Average growth period was 113 days. Seedlings quality by two mediums was very similar. Those results suggested that the vermicompost can replace peat as flue-cured tobacco seedling medium in float system.
