Abstract
The new flue-cured tobacco variety Zhongyan106 is a pure-line flue-cured tobacco variety bred through pedigree selection after hybridization with NC82 as the female parent and 2010-7515 (a new high-quality and multi-resistant flue-cured tobacco line) as the male parent. The breeding objectives prioritized high quality and multiple resistances, while also taking into yield and curing properties. In the field, Zhongyan 106 exhibits strong growth vigor, a tower-shaped plant type, long-elliptical leaves, and 18-22 harvestable leaves per plant. It demonstrates moderate resistance to black shank, root-knot nematode, and PVY (potato virus Y), moderate susceptibility to bacterial wilt and brown spot, and susceptibility to TMV and CMV. Its comprehensive economic performance is significantly superior to that of K326 and slightly better than or equivalent to Yunyan 87. The cured tobacco leaves are mainly golden yellow in color, with appearance quality slightly better than that of K326. It also shows higher filling value, lower stem content, and relatively well-balanced chemical components. The sensory quality of Zhongyan106 effectively expresses the characteristic style of its production area, demonstrating strong industrial usability. Overall, Zhongyan106 is an excellent pure-line variety that achieves a sound balance among quality, disease resistance and economic traits. It is suitable for cultivation in tobacco-growing areas such as Southwest and Huanghuai areas, and can also be used as a parent with excellent comprehensive characteristics in flue-cured tobacco breeding.
