    Breeding and Selection of New Burley Tobacco Variety Eyan101 and Its Characteristics

    • The new burley tobacco variety Eyan101 was obtained by cross-breeding of Ebai003 and KY8959. It was approved by National Tobacco Cultivar Registration Board (NTCRB) in March 2009. The results showed that Eyan101 was one mid-late maturity variety with a strong growth and a wider distance between two adjacent plants than other varieties. Its tobacco leaf matured layer by layer and grew yellow. As for main economic traits and smoking quality, it performed better than the contrast variety. It was equivalent to the contrast variety about the appearance quality and physical characteristics of raw tobacco leaf. It displayed harmonious internal chemical components with lower nicotine content than the contrast variety. It performed a resistance to tobacco black shank and Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV), but susceptibility to Alternaria alternata (Fries) Keissler. It was expected that Eyan101 would produce greater economic effect by making a higher yield than other varieties.
