Abstract
Field experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of deep planting with one time fertilization technique on tobacco growth, yields, and quality in Guizhou Province. The results showed that root weight, length of tap root, amount of lateral root, root zone, leaf yield, and output value significantly increased by 20%, 37.2%, 25%, 66.2%, 18.6%, and 17.1%, respectively, the contents of total nitrogen and nicotine in upper leaves decreased by 29% and 9.2%, respectively. The application of this technique could save labor cost by 39.5 man days per ha and fertilizer usage by 15%, but maintained the yields and quality of tobacco leaves.
