Effect of Fertilization Standardization on Tobacco Development of Liangshan Prefecture

Tobacco fertilizer application in Liangshan largely relies on traditional experience, without general standard, thus fertilizer efficiency is low, and tobacco production is unbalanced. Several approaches were employed to overcome these problems, including current situation investigation, cause analysis, strategy making, and continuous improvement. After 3 years of study, we have made fertilization standards in Liangshan, identified the unique characteristics of the Liangshan tobacco leaf with “Qingtian flavor”, improved the leaf quality, and increased the stability of leaf supply as a raw material. By using the standardization, fertilizer rates decreased from 50 kg to 40 kg, yet fertilizer efficiency increased. The usage of fertilizer standardization increased from 30% in 2005 to 85% in 2007. Planter’s income, revenue, and enterprise’s return all improved.
