Through hybridization and pedigree selection, a new flue-cured tobacco variety Minyan 7 was developed by crossing the female parent tobacco variety Yunyan 85 and the male parent variety Coker 347 which is resistant to tobacco bacterial wilt (Ralstonia solanacearum). Results showed that the new variety Minyan 7 had good adaptability, favored fertile soil, and was easy to cure. It was resistant to tobacco black shank and medium resistant to tobacco bacterial wilt. The cured leaf was rich in oil and had shining bright and well-distributed orange color. It has the favorable and well-proportioned chemical composition and good smoking-quality to meet the requirements of manufacturing cigarettes with Chinese characteristics. According to the results of tobacco varieties regional test in fujian province and Chinese southern area, the new variety Minyan 7 had higher leaf yield, higher average price, higher ratio of the high and middle class leaf and higher production value than the check variety K326. In conclusion, Minyan7 was a new variety with good comprehensive characters.
