Contact Toxicity of Plant Powder Formulation of Alpinia officinarum Hance Rhizome against Lasioderma serricorne (Fabricius)

    • Aiming to determine toxic bioactivity of plant powder formulation of Alpinia officinarum Hance Rhizome against Lasioderma serricorne (Fabricius), an important stored tobacco pest insect, the contact toxicity of plant powder formulation of A. officinarum Hance Rhizome against L. serricorne eggs, larvae, pupae and adults was tested at 5 concentration levels in laboratory using pesticide-film method. The results showed that the powder formulation of A. officinarum Rhizome performed strong contact toxicity against L. serricorne adults, which gradually enhanced with increasing treatment concentration or/and extending treatment time, and no contact toxicity against L. serricorne larvae at 28±1 ℃, 75±5% RH.. Within the treatment concentration range, the highest corrected mortality for adults reaching over 45% at 16 g/m2. The powder formulation of A. officinarum Rhizome also exhibited strong contact toxicity against L. serricorne (Fabricius) eggs and pupae, with the highest corrected mortality for eggs and pupae reaching over 60% at 16 g/m2. Therefore, plant powder formulation of A. officinarum Hance Rhizome is a promising plant-based insecticide to control L. serricorne.
