Abstract:
The burley tobacco samples from eight areas in Yunnan, Sichuan, Hubei, Chongqing, USA, and Malawi were collected and the contents of their neutral aroma components were analyzed by cluster analysis to understand the characteristics and contents differences of neutral aroma components in burley tobacco between Yunnan and other main production areas both in China and abroad. The results showed that samples from USA had the highest contents of carotenoids, and Chongqing had the highest contents of phenylalanines, browning reactions, cembranoids and total neutral aroma components but neophytadiene. The results of cluster analysis showed that the samples could be clustered into two groups. 75% of the samples from Yunnan could be classified into one group with Malawi, the contents of carotenoids, phenylalanines were higher than those in Malawi, the other samples from Yunnan could be classified into one group with USA, besides carotenoids, the rest of the ingredients were all higher than those from USA. In conclusion, Yunnan burley has higher similarity with USA burley.
