Abstract:
A series of assessments on ecological adaptability of flue-cured tobacco in Sichuan Province were conducted by using GIS and fuzzy set in order to properly identify the best planting regions and improve raw material supply to cigarette industry. The soil and tobacco leaf samples from tobacco planting regions in Sichuan were collected and tested, and local climatic and terrain data were collected as well. The assessment factors were identified by correlation analysis between tobacco leaf quality and ecological parameters, and ecological assessment was carried out. The results showed that altitude, sunshine hours, and soil type could be used in assessing the adaptability of tobacco in Sichuan. Nine point five two percent of the land area in Sichuan Province was in the category of "the most suitable for tobacco production" and 39.89% of existing tobacco production areas were in the "most suitable" and 24.20% were in the "suitable" categories, respectively. The existing tobacco production areas could be classified into 3 primary zones, which could be further classified as the most suitable, suitable, less suitable, and not suitable zones.
