Abstract:
In order to clarify the effect of shading rate on the growth and leaf quality of Fujian wrapper tobacco, the main growth periods, agronomic characters of tobacco plants and the physical indexes, chemical components, appearance quality of cured middle tobacco leaves were studied under different shading rates (0, 20%, 30%, 40%, 60%) using polypropylene mesh with different thicknesses. The results showed that with the increase of shading rate, the budding time of wrapper tobacco plants and the maturity time of tobacco leaves in various parts were delayed; Leaf length, leaf width, and leaf area of wrapper tobacco first increased and then decreased, while branch width, leaf thickness, tensile force, single leaf mass, and leaf density decreased; Total sugar content increased, and reducing sugar content first increased and then decreased, while potassium and chlorine contents decreased; The maturity and oil content scores decreased, but tobacco leaf thickness, branch thickness, and branch flatness scores increased; The scores of aroma quality, aroma quantity, offensive door, irritation, and aftertaste decreased, while the scores of gray and combustibility increased. Based on comprehensive analysis, the wrapper tobacco leaves treated with a 30% shading rate have the most suitable physical indicators and appearance quality, and the chemical composition and sensory quality can also meet the quality requirements of wrapper. In conclusion, it is suggested that 30% shading rate is appropriate for the production of cigar wrapper in Fujian area.
