Abstract:
To qualify and generalize the influence of heavy metals on the germination and growth of plant, the present study was conducted to analyze the influence of Pb
2+ on the germination and growth of tobacco seeds with meta-analysis. During the experiments, the coating tobacco seeds were cultivated in Pb
2+ solution and pure water, respectively, and the influence of Pb
2+ on the germination and growth of tobacco seeds was determined by the Comprehensive Meta Analysis, and then the fluctuation conditions of the Pb
2+ effect were discussed. The results showed that, within the concentration of Pb
2+ from 0.2 to 5.0 mg/L, Pb deterred the germination and growth of tobacco seeds. With increasing Pb
2+ concentration, the stress effect of Pb
2+ on seed germination showed three stages of increase-decrease-stable, and on development of roots and stems showed three stages of increase-decrease-increase. This stress effect was more severe in roots than in stems. The fluctuation of Pb
2+ effect increased with the degree of the influence. In general, this stress effect appeared to be conservative among the various concentrations investigated but 0.2 mg/L. This study may be helpful for the application of meta-analysis in the qualification and generalization of the influence of heavy metals on the germination and growth of plants.
