Abstract:
he techniques of flue-cured tobacco seedling bed on moist trays were studied. The main contents of the techniques were the selection of mediumsand nutrient solutions and the improvements of management of fertilizer and irrigation and the comparative experiments on different seedling production mode. The results showed that the NO.10 medium with NO.2 nutrient solution produced the best seedlings with desirable height and width, well developed roots, goodroot activity and the most fresh and dry weight of the roots, stems and leaves. Management of fertilizer and irrigation was changed from the traditional“one section approach” to “two section approach” of “floating earlier and irrigation later”. The new approach could significantly decrease the laborcost and resolve the problems such as harden medium, lower germination rate and lower uniformity of flue-cured tobacco seedlings as in traditional approach. The techniques of seedling production on moist trays not only remained the dominance of seedling nursing on float system, but also increased the dispositionof tobacco transplants, shortened the resuscitation period after transplanting, and improved the quality of the middle and lower leaves.
