Abstract: Chuanxue No.5, a new cigar variety, was bred by the pedigree method with high quality, high yield and multi-resistance as breeding objectives, J20 as female parent and Ha20 as male parent.The variety was approved by the National Tobacco Variety Approval Committee in 2023.The results of variety test showed that Chuanxue No.5 had strong growth potential, cylindrical plant type and wide oval leaf shape.The main agronomic traits and economic traits were better than H382.The results of disease resistance identification showed that Chuanxue 5 was immune to TMV, resistant to CMV, moderately resistant to black shank and bacterial wilt, slightly susceptible to PVY.The results of industrial evaluation showed that the tissue of Chuanxue No.5 was delicate, the physical properties were slightly better than that of H382, and the proportion of main chemical components was more coordinated.According to the industrial evaluation of China Tobacco Sichuan Industrial Co., Ltd., China Tobacco Anhui Industrial Co., Ltd., and China Tobacco Zhejiang Industrial Co., Ltd., Chuanxue No.5 was considered to be a good variety of wrapper because of its significant cigar style and good aroma characteristics and taste indexes.According to the comprehensive evaluation, Chuanxue No.5 is a new cigar variety with good quality traits, economic traits and disease resistance.It has strong adaptability and is suitable for planting in Sichuan, Shandong, Anhui and other tobacco areas.
